11/3 You've been jacked!

In 16th century Europe those who ruled through fiat and the lies of ancient myth had become so toxic that those who had genuine interest in understanding the world they lived in were tortured and persecuted so that in self-defense freethinkers were forced to engage in revolution and the birth of the Renaissance ensued, a new a the Age of Reason an era of creativity and learning that had never been seen before. In the midst of this era, a new nation was born The United States Of America with a constitution framed by Atheists and Deists who weighed the concerns of competing churches and ingeniously insisted that none need fear a goverment of emnity to  any creed because government should make its own business the business of showing no prejudice or favor toward any creed. This profoundly successful idea, enshrined in the 1st Amendment is faltering, because the disparate minority sects found that could work together to fight Row-v-Wade. Excited by the first taste of power they had seen in centuries the have now become drunk on their own success on the belt way. As each year goes by legislation enters the senate is passed and signed into law the that erodes civil and personal liberties often for no reason other than advancing an agenda to see national law meet the standards of their creed. And every such law falls afoul of the constitution for "congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or the free exercise thereof".
The recent Blunt Amendment is a thinly veiled attempt to impose biblical law and misogyny on reproductive rights. The
amendment was so broadly worded that it would be possible for an employer who happens to be an anti-vaccer to deny coverage for child vaccinations for employees. Only when Sandra Fluke got ripped by Rush Limbaugh as "a slut who is having so much sex that she needs the taxpayer to pay for it" did people notice how insane the Republican's position has become. Rush also demonstrated an appalling lack of understanding of how hormonal contraception is used both for primary purpose and other medical issues.
Barrier contraception may be per use but hormonal contraception is per deum. None of this mentions that Sandra Fluke was advocating less for her immediate need but for the needs of others.

NDAA 2012 Now allows for detention with trial of US citizens. and now the spectre of exjudical executions is being raised.
Defence contractors are marketing to police departments, predator drones, and heavy armored vehicles. Seriosly, what does Sherif P Coltrain need an Abrams tank for? Drug busts perhaps? If the worst that could to a user for unlicenced possesion was equivelent to a parking, the sherif would not need to worry about his budget so much. If were legalised and regulated corrupting high profit motive would disappear. The Columbian drug lords would go out of business and the rebel war would become insolvent, the child solders could return to their villages. Even better the mexican drug business would become insolvent too, bring a level of peace not seen in Mexico for a long time, this would increase the stability of business conditions in Mexico relieving the pressure for illegal northward migration.

Defense contractors are marketing to police departments, predator drones, and heavy armored vehicles. Seriously, what does Sherif Rosco P Coltrain need an Abrams tank for? Drug busts perhaps? If the worst that could happen to a user for unlicensed possession was equivalent to a parking-fine, the sherif would not need to worry about his budget so much. If drugs legalized and regulated the corrupting high profit motive would disappear.

Of course there will be those who will use drugs to their detriment. Treating this problem as a public health issue is the most effective way of handling this issue as demonstrated in jurisdictions that gave up criminalization of cannabis. The much research has been on this subject The gateway drug argument is not supported by the evidence. Even right wing Reverend Pat Robertson can see sense in not over criminalizing non violent drug users. While much of what he has said on other subjects reveals jaw dropping ignorance and prejudice, he apparently had a moment of lucidity. And like Pat, I neither use nor intend to use any any recreational substance. I am simply arguing that society should not be engineered to make bad things worse.
