At least 10 boys and young men were castrated by Dutch Catholic Church in the 1950's as a treatment for homosexuality an as retribution for reporting sexual abuse by clergy.
One of the young men castrated was Henk Heithuis, 20 years old at the time he was dead two years later - in a car crash. Cornelius Rogge, friend of the Heithuis family friend testified to the Deetman inquiry:
"We once asked Henk to drop his pants when the women were gone. He did that. He was maimed totally. It was a huge shock,"
More than 1800 report of abuse have been report to the Deetman inquiry some of these reports going back to 1945. Former Dutch Prime-minister Vic Marijnen is implicated because he was the chairman of the Catholic boys home where Heithuis was abused.
